First Shift Forklift Operator

Division: Operations
Department: Day Dock
Reports To: Dock Operations Manager and/or Dock Foreperson

General Summary
Sort and palletize freight, maintaining schedules to ensure on-time delivery.

Job Functions and Responsibilities

  1. Unload, sort, segregate and palletize freight and load trailers.
  2. Wrap freight to prevent damage.
  3. Properly mark and stage freight.
  4. Report all overages, shortages, damages and problems to Dock Operations Manager and/or foreperson.
  5. Sort pallets (4-ways) and load sorted 2-ways onto R&B trailer.
  6. Practice and adhere to all safety procedures.
  7. Mark all manifest correctly to verify count.
  8. Clean trailers after unloading.
  9. Cleaning of dock area as needed during assigned team week.
  10. Put away miscellaneous boxes for office in the storeroom.
  11. Load Wal-Mart.
  12. Deliver or pick up freight using company pick-up truck or personal vehicle.
  13. Assist foreperson by putting locations on manifests.
  14. Back up Night Loader/Unloader positions if needed (see job descriptions).
  15. Shovel snow from dock locks in the winter.
  16. Assist maintenance department if needed.
  17. Sweep dock locks and under dock plates during summer months.

Working Conditions

  • Environment - Dock environment, temperatures range from 0 - 120 degrees.
  • Hours of work - 8 hours full-time days plus required overtime.

Employment/Selection Criteria

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Previous forklift experience.
  3. Honesty and integrity.
  4. Good basic math skills.
  5. Previous warehouse/dock experience preferred.
  6. Hazardous Materials Training (company provided).
  7. Good work ethic.
